What is information literacy?
It is the ability "to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information"
(American LIbrary Association Presidential Committee on Information Literacy, 1989)
Why information literacy?
Good decisions depend on good information.
Our nation faces a critical new challenge in the 21st century: helping people cope with a bewildering amount of information.
Technology is changing how we live, learn and work.
The ability to read or even use a computer is not enough.
You must also be able to evaluate and apply information.
How to use this wiki.
There are 6 steps to effective research. Use the navigation pane on the left to help you work though each step.
Each step has strategies to assist you.
